Probably would only interfere with 22 m HIFER communications if one lived above a convenience store when the Powerball payout gets over a billion. You are correct, sir! :-) That's the only point at which my card would ever get read for that purpose, anyway. The difference between the odds of winning the Powerball if I were inclined to play it, versus the odds of winning if I don't, is so small in percentage points that it is within the range of floating point calculation error on most handheld calculators and all but the best computers. I estimate a better chance of receiving a return on investment if I stood on a street corner and handed out $5 bills to random strangers. The only time it's enough to make me feel a twinge of greed is when the jackpot exceeds the point where, if every player bought a ticket with a different sequence of numbers, one would have to win. Not that I could afford to do that, either, but it would increase the itch to try. But seriously, yes, those transactions are very short-range, and last a couple seconds at most.
