Good point about data rates and bandwidth affecting the practical range of RFID. It also has next to nothing in the form of an antenna, if we assess the loop coupling devices by area. Assuming the same field strength limits, and inductive rather than EM wave communication, this allows for quite a bit more energy in the near field. That's beneficial for some RFID devices which are powered by the interrogating signal from the reader. Simple RFID security tags use the power to blow a fuse, or create a short in a dielectric layer to deactivate them. It's interesting stuff.
