I've wondered the same thing about IF loading Ed. You would hope that if an IF port was available on a particular rig, then that port would be properly isolated by circuitry that would allow a 50 ohm load connected to it not to affect the rigs recieiver in any way.

I would assume that if a port wasn't available, and the op "hacked" into the IF circuitry, then one would have to use a buffer circuit between the point of IF connection and the added sdr device. Something on the order of a source follower FET acting as the buffer. High impedance presented to the IF and low impedance presented to the sdr. I'll check out the video you've provided a link to.
