I’m very sorry to report that MJ, a 25 watt NDB near Manchester, NH, was decommissioned and shut down as of 9/9/2026. MJ was only about 25 miles NW of me here at my QTH north of Boston, and for years it’s been kind of like a local friend to me, cheerfully sending out its familiar _ _ . _ _ _ CW identifier, easily heard here no matter what space weather and LW propagation was doing. To the best of my memory, I was the only person to have ever reported MJ in The Lowdown’s bimonthly DX Downstairs column (I kept waiting for someone else to log it, but never!). I made a trip up there to site visit MJ once a few years back and wrote up a little piece with pictures which appeared in the Jan-Feb 2024 issue of The Lowdown. I’m very sorry to see MJ go, but it leaves behind an open channel on 209 kHz for MT up in Chibougamau, Quebec. Which, as of last night at least, was still doing its thing.
RIP, MJ!
