Hi Folks,I recently learned about a relatively new type of core for inductors and transformers. Referred to as nanocrystalline (NC) cores, they have superior properties at low frequencies I.e. in the range 10-100kHz, (datasheet numbers). In particular, the very hight AI (specific inductance per square of turns number compared even to the high permeability ferrites of comparable dimensions.

So, I was thinking these could be very useful in VLF specific applications such as antenna transformers, bandpass filtering etc. as loss increases with frequencies outside that range, there should be some help in reducing overload from MF stations in the broadcast band. Meanwhile it would be easy to create large inductances and transformers for lower frequency tasks.
It is tempting to obtain a sample for experimentation.
Thoughts welcome
