Marcy, there is an NDB on 279 kHz, callsign CQX, at the Chatham (MA) Airport out on the elbow of Cape Cod. I can often hear it here north of Boston, and seems likely that on a good night you might hear it as well on LI. It’s Morse ID’d as CQX with code sidebands +/- 1.02 kHz. Next time you hear the 279 carrier, listen up or down 1 kHz on 278 or 280 kHz. You may hear the weak coded ID sidebands. Many nights I’ll just hear the weak carrier but on good nights I’ll capture the IDs as well.
