Thanks for the detailed and well organized arguments against this being a time signal, John. I agree with all your points that the likelihood of that is close to zero, although I'm not nearly as well versed on the many technical details as you are.

I also admit to a bit of sensationalist mischief in titling my post for maximum intrigue despite minimum likelihood. Kind of like spam emails that try to pull you in with an exciting (and likely completely false) email title. In any case, your three well-carved out categories seal the deal for me. I particularly like the "very peculiar frequency" category which indeed it was. I tried my best to mentally/audibly morph the beep/tick frequency to 209.40 kHz which at least would have matched the Canadian +0.4 kHz USB NDB code, but no, it was for sure on 209.37. I particularly like your suggestion of some kind of faulty NDB system, especially since it was so close (only 30 Hz away) to the oft-used 0.4 kHz USB for many Canadian NDBs, and there was no comparable LSB at -0.4 kHz. But those are invariably pretty much spot on +0.40 kHz, which makes me wonder about even that.

In any case, I'd never heard this signal before in several years of LW DX'ing, and have not heard it since I posted several days back, so we'll likely never know. This kind of stuff only adds to the mystery and intrigue of the entire LW spectrum in my view.

Thanks again for your great response, John.
