After three and a half years away from it I am receive capable on 2200m again. I resurrected the big K9AY loop which is currently fixed east-northeast but will soon be switchable to west-southwest. I am dismayed to see RFI is worse than before, though there are still some reasonably quiet times. I am using a different receiver now but I am reasonably confident this doesn't affect what I am seeing. Activity appears to be way down. There are very few stations transmitting and fewer monitors than when I was last active. For now I am monitoring WSPR2, FST4W-120/300/900/1800 most nights. I am not sure if I will reinstate the visual grabbers considering the low activity but I wouldn't rule anything out.
I would love to return to transmitting but I haven't figured out how to prevent a repeat of the antenna disaster that damaged two towers and many other antennas. I can't put things back as they were and risk that happening again. I am also fairly certain 2200m RF killed my first Davis weather station and don't want to lose the replacement. If I come up with solutions to these problems, I will put a transmitting antenna up. I still have all the equipment.
