Yep, good 'ole cw. I used a MFJ keyer that looped my callsign and qsl info for the Xtal controlled Xmtr. On the rx end, used whatever stable rcvr I had on hand with the sharpest cw audio filter I could muster. Strained the ears for hours listening to qrn/suburban qrm, hoping to catch that faint cw note of the lowfer of current interest. Pressed an audio cassette player into service to record/save the audio. Oh btw, to add to the challenge, you hoped that the lowfer you were trying to log was actually on the air. How many of those ops that posted on the Lowfer listings ran the disclaimer ... "Intermittent". :-) Those were the days ... Ray ...swlem3... N. central Texas p.s. ... and you actually sent an envelope through the postal mail service to the beacon op to request that prized QSL card you so diligently worked for.
