anyone make one using a CB as the input? i started building one using an SA602 mixer and a raltron 4 pin vcxo at 27.000mhz as the local oscillator. input keying is RF sensed with SSB delay much like a CB amp, and the relay switches to a dummyload and sample resistor/pot. so yea, output will have a linear RF chain with a 1w input at the final, and there will be a separate RX antenna port with switchable phantom power to a remote pre. so im doing this to get SSB mode going which opens up modes like JS8CALL and general ragchewing. if this one works i have the parts to build more and a few local CBers who are willing to mess with it. goals here: A. affordable. im working class. so are the aforementioned CBers.
B. SSB mode linearity
C. maybe the 23 channel SSB rig is no longer obsolete. i plan on bringing a courier spartan SSB into this mix after i recap it.
D. the transverter mounted at the base of the antenna and you can cable the reference signal into the shack.
once bugs are worked out i got 4 people picked out locally between 1-10 miles away who will ensure that 185khz will have a vibe that is somewhere in between the comedy roast known as the local CB channel and the HF pirates. 2 of them are radio people, and the other 2 are music people. with any luck we can replace the loss of LW stations globally with our own content. if i were to be completely honest, i CAN listen to morocco on 171 but do they air stuff that i actually want to listen to? our would we all rather hear our neighbor play some ted nugent?
